Trey Gowdy has been reappointed to lead the Benghazi Select Committee
by Nathan'ette Burdine: November 30, 2014

John Boehner announced on Monday that he has reappointed South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy as the head of the Select Committee on Benghazi and has asked the six other Republican members to remain on the committee as well.

There hasn’t been any word about whether the five Democrats will return. The committee was formed in May of this year to investigate what led to the deaths of Ambassador Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Tyrone Woods, and Glen Doherty on September 11, 2012.

Republicans have argued that then Ambassador Susan Rice comment that the attacks were the result of an anti-Islam video is evidence that the Obama Administration has not been upfront and honest about the events leading up to and during the attacks.

There have been several congressional investigations into the events leading up to and during the attacks.

All of the investigations, including the most recent by the House Intelligence Committee, concluded that the Obama Administration didn’t do anything that would have caused the attacks to occur.

Last week, Gowdy issued a statement in response to the House Intelligence Committee’s report. Gowdy stated that he will take the House Intelligence Committee’s report, as well as the other congressional committees’ reports, into consideration during the investigation.

Boehner has remained skeptical about the Obama Administration’s explanation concerning the September 11, 2012, Benghazi attacks.

Boehner stated that he continues to have more questions than answers and it is for this reason that he decided to “reappoint Rep. Trey Gowdy and the Republican members of the House Select Committee to investigate the events in Benghazi.”
