Oprah on Donald Trump-I am smart enough to not comment on that
by Nathan'ette Burdine: January 13, 2017

Oprah Winfrey doesn’t want to get into any of Donald Trump’s mess. Last Tuesday, TMZ asked Winfrey what questions she would ask Trump and she responded, “Ohhhhh, I am smart enough to not comment on that. I didn’t do 38,000 interviews to get stuck with that one! I don’t want to be in the twitterverse, honey.”

Last year, Winfrey began trending after she tweeted a screenshot of Donald Trump sitting next to President Obama with the words, “Everybody take a deep breath! #HopeLives!”

Winfrey’s tweet came two days after a very feisty, toxic election between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

Needless to say, the wounds from the Democratic side were over flowing with pulse and showing no signs of healing.

And as expected, folks responded to Winfrey’s tweet with the same venomous hate that Trump and his supporters had responded to Clinton and her supporters.

Mieke Eerkens tweeted, “Oh, Oprah, no. There r pictures of Hitler cuddling his dogs too. Please don’t normalize someone who ran on hateful ideology.  Dangerous.”

Nicole tweeted that Winfrey’s wealth provided her with the luxury of being hopeful: “yea Ms O I’ve always loved u, bt u’re cancelled now. Hope lives 4 u bc whatever Trump screws up won’t affect u.”

Recognizing the swift backlash and how twitterthaterade could damage her media empire, Winfrey decided to get up and go to Facebook Live to explain herself to the not-so approving Hill Dawgs.

Winfrey stated that she spoke kindly about Trump because he complimented President Obama, whom Winfrey campaigned with in 2008.

For Winfrey, Trump acknowledgement that President Obama is not the monster some have portrayed him as was evidence that Trump was open to listening to others.

Inside Edition quoted Winfrey as saying, “-I heard Donald Trump say, ‘He’s a good man.’ I heard Donald Trump say, ‘I’m going to be seeking his counsel.’ I literally went…I can breathe now.”

Winfrey also said that the lesson she learned from that experience is to just “speak for yourself” and not to be dragged into other folks’ conversation.

TMZ, however, decided that they would try to drag Winfrey back into the Trump conversation.

TMZ asked Winfrey, “So no Trump stuff.” Winfrey laughed and responded with, “You’re so good. You’re able to hold that camera and talk at the same time.”

Although the little put down didn’t persuade the young TMZer to stop asking about Trump, it did persuade the young fella to try and appeal to Winfrey’s journalist instincts.

He asked her to tell him “the first question” she’d ask a President-Elect Trump. And being the ol’ school pro that she is, Winfrey quickly caught on to the young fella’s slick game.

She told him, “I would have to do a lot of thinking about it. And you just tried it again, didn’t you? This guy’s good! This guy is goooddd!”
